George TurnerBorn 1843 Died 1910 George Turner was born in Cromford, Derbyshire in 1843. He lived for some years in Barrow-on-Trent and Idrigehay. He specialized in painting the landscape of South Derbyshire, the Trent Valley near Barrow-on-Trent, and North Wales. His pupils included his son, William Lakin Turner (1867-1929) and Luis Bosworth Hurt (1856-1929), who also lived near Barrow-on-Trent and is renowned for his Scottish landscapes with highland cattle. George Turner's pictures are usually signed Geo. Turner or G.Turner and inscribed on the back with the title and his address at the time. Turner exhibited frequently at the Derby Art Gallery, and paintings by both George Turner and his son can be seen in their collection. He died in 1910. | ||
