Henry Brittan WillisBorn 1810 Died 1884 A distinguished Landscape painter he lived in Hampstead, a suburb of London, at the same time as the great Constable, who greatly influenced his work. Many of his paintings were unsigned but can easily be recognised by his distinctive style. He exhibited from 1821 to 1862 mainly at the Royal Academy and at its rival the British Institution in Pall Mall, London. During his own lifetime and after his death his reputation was eclipsed by that of Constable, but his work is now enjoying a well-deserved revival. | ||
